The Importance Of Improving Motor Skills In Children
by Sarah Barnes
As children grow and develop they will begin to learn and discover more about their surroundings. This actually start from infancy, but there is more that goes into the brain of a young child because it is when they are very curious. Improving motor skills in children is, therefore worth knowing about because this is going to help them develop in many different ways.
There are gross motor skills which one learns gradually about basic muscles and they help the individual to move. They help with the balance, the coordination and this will improve the more regularly it is performed. Kids will be exposed to crawling, sitting, bouncing and running as they develop.
Babies will also be learning the basics in the early stages. For example, a little one will be learning to stand in their play pen. They will learn to crawl, and in a few months time, after pulling themselves up, they will learn to walk. It is important to give them a lot of praise so that they continue to build this up.
This will also become perfected as one goes along. An example of this is cutting a straight line with a pair of scissors. They will obviously differ according to the age of the child as well. A baby will have a play pen which is raised so he or she can practice getting up and holding themselves up on the bar.
There is a difference between fine and gross motor skills. Babies who are learning to crawl, and children who learn more about coordination will have more of an idea of gross motor skills. The muscles will be learning new ways of being controlled by the individual. Fine motor skills are completely different. The child needs to be focused on the activity. They will learn how to grip an object or that there are various textures to make use of.
It is a good idea that they do this regularly, just spending short amounts of time on the task on a daily basis. When they spend too long on one project, they will become frustrated and very soon want to give up. Teachers will recommend that the child gets into a routine with their tasks. It can include tying their laces. It may be something mom or dad want to help them with, but not push them with. It can be a good way of bonding with a child.
The creative brain needs to be stimulated. But, at the same time, one will find that this side of the brain can also improve the fine motor skills. It can include drawing, painting and playing with dough. These are all fun ideas as well. Sometimes, the teacher spots a gift within the child. But, of course, this is not the aim of the exercise. Parents need to encourage kids with this and they will develop their hidden gifts. Of course, parents also need to remember the balance.
There are toys and activities which are not expensive. For example, a child can get a lot out of making a necklace out of beads. Beads are not expensive. But one can also get hold of macaroni which can be an alternative and also a lot of fun because this comes in a variety of shapes.
