At fourteen youngsters are allowed to apply for farm or instruction permits. Before they can get one they must complete the application and pass a vision and written test. After they have the instruction permit, teens may drive, but only with someone who is twenty-one or older with them in the front seat.
No one else can be in the front seat. In addition, the teenager is required to have at least twenty-five hours of supervised driving practice. AAA Driving Logs are available to keep track of the practice sessions.
Once teens reach the age of 15, and have been driving with a permit for a year, they're allowed to apply for a restricted license. In order to be issued one of these licenses, they must show proof of the 25 hours of supervised driving and have completed their driver's ed course. The signature of a parent or guardian is required for the application.
With these licenses, teens are permitted to drive by themselves, or with siblings in the car, but only to and from specific locations. These might include school, a job, and church related activities. If there is someone in their car that is twenty-one or older, the teen is allowed to drive to other locations.
At sixteen teenagers are allowed to drive by themselves and don't have any restrictions on where they can go. They still have restrictions when it comes to the hours they are permitted to drive. Teens can only drive alone from five a. M. To nine p. M. They can only have one passenger who is under eighteen and who isn't an immediate member of the family.
Teens are not permitted to use cell phones or any kind while they are driving. No one in Kansas is allowed to text or email while driving. At the age of sixteen and a half, teenagers may apply for full licenses. They must have met all the requirements and not be cited for any infractions in the previous six months.
One of the requirements is proof of at least fifty hours of driving under supervision. Ten of those hours must be done at night. After they receive their full licenses, the previous restrictions are no longer applicable.
Kids in farming families, and those that work for them, may apply for permits to drive as soon as they are fourteen. They are permitted to travel wherever it's necessary as long as the trip is related to some farming activity. To get a farm permit, teenagers must complete the application, pass an eye test, and answer a certain percentage of the question on a written test correctly. A farm in Kansas is defined as a property having 20 acres of land or more.
